My name is Deann Phillips. I live on a farm outside of a very small town in southwest Missouri. I am married to an amazing man and have two daughters, one son, four beautiful granddaughters, and two of the most wonderful son-in-laws a mother could ask for. I spend the majority of my spare time with my family, a great deal of which is spent working together on the farm. I especially enjoy watching my granddaughters as they discover the world in which they live. I also enjoy camping, canoeing, and horseback riding. In 2002, when my son (who will graduate high school in May) entered middle school, I decided it was time to follow my lifelong dream of becoming a teacher and began attending Southwest Baptist University. After graduating in May of 2006, I applied for and was hired to teach first graders in a rural community near my home. I taught first graders for two years and am now teaching fifth grade in the same district. Teaching has been everything I dreamed it would be and more, which is one reason for my choosing to continue my education and pursue a masters’ degree here at the UOP. I believe that technology is an integral part of the educational experience, and as I reflect on the Computer Instructional portion of my masters program I realize that this experience has deepened this belief. As I reach the end of this leg in the road, it seems like I only started on this portion of my educational journey; yet here I am in my last class and looking forward to being finished. From this final class, I hope to acquire a better understanding of how to use technology to enhance student learning. Deann Phillips
